‘Will We Get A Fair Shake?’: Crawford’s Trainer BoMac Preemptively Questions Judging For Canelo Fight

Terence Crawford’s trainer, Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, says he’s worried about fair judging for Bud’s fight against the Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez in October.

Fair Judging?

BoMac is preemptively building a narrative of biased judging for fans to have in their mind to cushion the blow if Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) loses. He’s assuming the fight will be close enough for it to be seen as an unfair result by fans.

Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs) is more powerful, rugged, and experienced than Crawford at 168; it could be a blowout similar to his fight against Jermell Charlo.  That guy was bigger and stronger than Crawford, and Alvarez was too much for him. He gave up trying to win almost immediately in the first round and went into survival mode.

“He’s only wilder than Bud. He’s not taller than Bud. But this is the only thing that sometimes worries me is the name Canelo. Will we get a fair shake? If the fight is close, will we get the fair shake?” said trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre to MillCity Boxing about Terence Crawford’s potential fight against Canelo Alvarez in October.

Excuse Building

BoMac is laying the groundwork for an excuse if Bud Crawford gets beaten by Canelo. For him to be already cooking up excuses preemptively shows that he lacks confidence in Crawford’s ability to win. He’s already trying to plant seeds to deflect criticism when it happens. If Terence is paying attention to BoMac, he can’t be happy about him displaying a lack of faith in him.

“He don’t respect them,” said BoMac when asked why Canelo is such a problem for fighters. “If he respects them, then the fight is complicated for him. I think Canelo is the type of fighter where maybe he don’t have to put out as much as he needs to put out because that type of fighter isn’t one his level.

“I think sometimes, he’ll fight down to that level [of his overmatched opponent], and then it’ll take a while to get rammed up to do the things he needs to do to get them out of there,” said BoMac.
