Fresh off French Open win, Coco Gauff is the toast of New York at WNBA game, ‘Tonight Show’

A few days after her big French Open title win, tennis star Coco Gauff continued celebrating her victory on Tuesday with appearances at the New York Liberty game and on “The Tonight Show” hosted by Jimmy Fallon.

Gauff, 21, received a thunderous ovation as she watched the Liberty defeat the Chicago Sky while sitting courtside with Vanessa Bryant and her family at the Barclays Center.

Gauff made her first appearance on late-night television shortly thereafter. The NBC show teased Gauff with Fallon ahead of the appearance as the tennis sensation was featured in a cameo, showing off her replica French Open trophy.

After Fallon read a monologue of jokes during a segment of “WePost,” he read the last one before welcoming Gauff, who was standing behind a curtain. As Gauff slid in front of the camera, she was welcomed with loud cheers and a standing ovation.

Ahead of the show, Gauff and Fallon were featured in a teaser where Fallon opened a mini fridge full of tennis balls and to the audio, “who put the muffins in the freezer,” a trend on the social media platform TikTok. Gauff then flashes her trophy.

Gauff defeated then No. 1-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at the French Open, winning her second Grand Slam and becoming the first American to win the title since Serena Williams in 2015.
