Former Premier League defender says what Still must do at Southampton

Still, 32, has signed a three-year deal at Southampton and has been tasked with getting the club back into the Premier League.

The Belgian-born English coach has already stated his desire to win matches by playing high-pressure football and restore a lost feeling at St Mary’s.

Southampton won just twice in the Premier League last season, leading Davies to insist the only thing they need to do this season is get back to winning ways.

“Even though he (Still) is new to the league, Southampton, like Ipswich, will expect to go straight back up,” Davies told Sky Sports.

“With everything they have done in the past and the way they have played football, they just need to be winning.

“We saw last year that they were trying to play this lovely football, but they were losing games and they’ve unfortunately ended up back in the Championship.

“With Will Still, it’s nice to see them go with a fresh, new face, rather than the conveyer belt of managers who have been there and done it.

“They’ve brought in a British manager to hopefully take them forward and get them into the Premier League.”
