TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Cochise County has filed a motion for a preliminary and permanent injunction against a business in Ramsey Canyon.
The county said the property, formerly a bed and breakfast, expanded without proper permits.
The county did not name the business but said it is now a “10-unit guest lodging campus, recreation center, and restaurant.”
The business has allegedly been hosting weddings, parities, and other public events. The county said the events have been noisy and created traffic and fire hazards.
“Residents have a right to the quiet use and enjoyment of their homes,” said Chief Civil Deputy County Attorney Paul Correa. “The County Attorney’s Office is committed to protecting communities from activities that violate County zoning regulations—particularly when they threaten health and safety.”
The county said Ramsey Canyon is known for its “biodiversity and birdwatching tourism.”
The county claimed the “weddings every weekend and other events during the week have led to increasing concerns from residents, first responders, and environmental officials alike.”
If the operators had applied for the permits, the county, community, and zoning commission would have gotten involved.
”The process would have allowed the Ramsey Canyon residents to have a voice and considered fire and emergency management concerns,” the county said.
