Luke Shaw suffers yet another injury setback at Man United

Luke Shaw has suffered another setback in his bid to return to Ruben Amorim’s starting XI.

The left back last started a league game for Manchester United on February 18 and has been nearing a return to full fitness. However, it is understood there has been a minor setback to his recovery and he is now likely to miss this Friday’s game against Leicester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

There is hope he will be able to train next week as he looks to earn his first start under Amorim. United signed the left back Patrick Dorgu in the transfer window but also let Tyrell Malacia leave on loan, meaning they are still short down that side.

Shaw came off the bench against Everton on December 1, having recovered from the knee issue that sidelined him for the beginning of the season, but picked up a muscle injury that has prevented him from featuring for United since.

Amorim will provide an update on the fitness of his players — including the centre back Lisandro Martínez, who has an expected season-ending ACL injury — in his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

Leny Yoro, meanwhile, has spoken about the discipline that Amorim is trying to bring to the squad. The £59million summer signing from Lille said that the Portuguese head coach places a particular emphasis on the players’ performance in training and their timekeeping.

“The most important thing is to be really good in training,” Yoro told the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, presented by Qatar Airways. “If you are not working, if you are lazy in training, he won’t like you — he’ll kill you! It’s normal because, yeah, you play like you train.

“You need to be punctual. He’s really strict on this because, to win games and trophies, you need to be disciplined outside the pitch.”

Yoro, 19, also revealed that he has hired an analyst with whom he used to work with at Lille.

The analyst helps the French centre back study clips of games, which are sent to him by the coaching staff at United, who have set up a WhatsApp group for defenders.

“We have a group on WhatsApp with all the defenders,” he said. “They send clips of the strikers, their movements, their runs. And outside of that, I have one person who’s doing really a lot of clips on the strikers for me to know, my personal guy who I already had in Lille. I have kept on working with him.”
