
TEDx Sioux Falls speakers look to provoke thought, build community
TEDx Sioux Falls presented eight local community builders to the stage to share ideas, revelations and thought-provoking life tips.
The Sioux Falls business scene is always bustling, showcasing a dynamic blend of new ventures, expansions and next chapters that reflect the city’s ever-evolving economic landscape.
Staying in the know about it all can prove challenging in a city that continues to be the fastest-growing in the Midwest since 2020.
The Argus Leader is here to help with its new roundup of Sioux Falls metro area openings, closings and everything in between. We’re calling it, “Let’s Talk Business,” a recap posted regularly, featuring business news and a look at what’s to come in the “Queen City.”

Openings
- The South Dakota Driver License Exam Station (DMV) reopened June 9 at its new location, the State of South Dakota One Stop at Dawley Farm Village, 1501 S. Highline Ave., Suite 1B (east entrance). The DMV closed its previous location on the corner of Russell Street and Kiwanis Avenue on June 5. The new DMV location is the only station to offer written exams and driving tests in Sioux Falls.
- Rosy’s Tacos held its grand opening on June 11 for a new restaurant located at 2305 W. Madison St. Rosie’s Tacos began as a food truck in 2020. The menu features tacos, including their specialty birria tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, asada, dorado and chorizo. Hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, 11:30 a.m.-3 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday.
- Totally Rad Eats at Fernson Downtown launched its new food menu on June 11 at 332 S. Phillips Ave. Totally Rad Eats is a new concept of Fernson’s new Director of Food & Beverage Operations, Beau Vondra, who was a chef and co-owner at Look’s Marketplace for 17 years. Breakfast is served 8 a.m.-10:30 a.m. with breakfast sandwiches, burritos and more. Lunch and dinner feature options like the Totally Rad burger, three hot dog variations, sandwiches, salad, appetizers, dessert and even a kids’ menu. Fernson Downtown’s hours are 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday, 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Coming Soon
- The Empire Mall announced June 9 that four new stores will open this year, including the return of Hollister in the former Forever 21 space in the fall. Carhartt, a workwear and outdoor apparel and gear retail store, will also open this fall in the former Verizon space near the Food Court. Still to come this summer to the former Journey Kidz space is Perfume Palace, a one-stop fragrance store selling designer and name-brand fragrances at discount prices. Locally-owned Sawyer Wood Products will also open this summer next to Macy’s in the former Shoe Diva space. Lululemon will be relocating to a larger space between Halberstadt’s and Oakley with plans to open this fall.
